    ​Dr. Kathleen Mackenzie is an award-winning Clinical Social Worker, Senior Lecturer in the Behavioral Science and Applied Nutrition Departments at Northeastern University, and Special Education Supervisor of Clinical and Behavioral Services for the New Bedford School Department.  Dr. Mackenzie graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations.  She received her Masters in Social Work from Boston University and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Northeastern University. 

     

    In 2019 Dr. Mackenzie became certified as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider.  She is also certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer.  In 2013 Dr. Mackenzie received the Hubie Jones Award from Boston University for her ongoing dedication to working with underserved and disenfranchised urban communities.  She also received the Dean’s Medal from Northeastern University for her doctoral thesis entitled Teaching English Language Learners Within the General Education Setting: A Phenomenological Study.

     

    Kathleen has worked as a clinical social worker and educator for 30 years  in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health, psychiatric inpatient, K-12 urban public schools, and higher education.  Kathleen is known for her advocacy on social justice issues related to inequitable access to high quality educational programs and mental health services. 

     

    Dr. Mackenzie’s knowledge about behavioral health and wellness has led her to be invited to speak at numerous educational and medical institutions including Active Minds, Brown University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Bradley Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, and the New Bedford School Department.
